I don't understand your pattern. You have hdc = 72 for like almost 10 rounds, I think those are supposed to be single crochets, I am trying to do this pattern, and all it's making is a flat round.

For Anonymous:

The rounds you mentioned are supposed to be hdc, since most of the hat is done in hdc. I did it that way because I like how hdc is taller than a sc but not as holey as a dc.

If you're ending up with a flat round, I'm not sure how you have started the hat. The rows with 72 sts are the sides of the hat where the width stays the same and seem to go straight down to the brim.

Thanks for the pattern. My mother-in-law was looking for a good hat for my daughter and she loves it!

Was wondering what size this hat is for?? Will it fit an 18 month old?? : )

I made this when my daughter was about 2. She is on the larger end of head sizes. I crochet a little loose, and I tend to make hats bigger for kids since their noggins grow so fast! If you crochet tight or try one size smaller hook, you might be ok! I hope it works out for you!

I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn for this project and a standard J sized hook and it came out wayyyyyyy bigger than it should have. It's even too big to fit my head let alone my almost 3 year old. Definitely using a smaller hook and tighter stitches next time!
